01
Notice where it is cold
The temperature pattern is useful. A cold top can indicate air, a cold lower section can be associated with deposits, and a completely cold radiator may point to a closed or stuck valve or lack of circulation.
02
Check the simple controls
Confirm the heating is on, the thermostatic radiator valve is open and the lockshield has not been closed. Avoid forcing a seized valve or removing components if you are unsure.
03
Balancing and circulation
When some radiators heat rapidly while others struggle, the system may need balancing. Pump performance, pipework arrangement and restrictions within the system can also affect circulation.
04
When cleaning may be appropriate
Dark system water, recurring cold areas and noisy operation can indicate corrosion products or debris. The appropriate cleaning method should be chosen after assessing the system rather than assuming every property needs an aggressive power flush.
