01
Start with safety
A boiler presenting an unsafe condition must be dealt with under the appropriate gas-safety procedure. Replacement may become the sensible route when structural deterioration or major safety-critical damage cannot be repaired economically.
02
Compare repair cost with remaining value
A modest repair on an otherwise dependable boiler can be reasonable. Repeated failures, an expensive major component and limited remaining life can make continued spending poor value.
03
Consider parts and reliability
Parts availability and manufacturer support can change as appliances age. Even when one fault is repairable, evidence of several deteriorating components may alter the recommendation.
04
Assess the complete heating system
A replacement survey should consider hot-water demand, radiators, controls, system cleanliness, flue options and boiler position. The best result is a correctly specified system—not simply the largest available boiler.
